Information relating to the management of these conditions may be found on the website of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Assessment and Treatment

The assessment process aims to identify how the injury/condition is affecting your daily life. It will often involve investigating the movement, strength, sensation and dexterity of the hand. It may also consider how pain levels and patterns are affecting you during the day. This information is used to formulate a list of problems and goals on which to base the treatment programme.

The treatment programme provided by Cornwall Hand Therapy will be as unique as you are. The specific elements will depend on the outcome of the assessment but are likely to include several of the following treatment modalities:

  • Splinting and orthoses – static and dynamic, thermoplastic and neoprene
  • Joint mobilisations and stretches
  • Home exercise programme – utilising Core Hand App
  • Strengthening programme
  • Advice on scar management
  • Compression for swelling control
  • Desensitisation and sensory re-education
  • Therapeutic management of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Practical advice on compensatory approaches, aids and adaptations
